The Council wants to know what its City Housing tenants, stakeholders and the Christchurch community think about the proposal, with consultation open from 21 May, 2014, until Thursday, 26 June 2014. Anyone who is interested can make a written submission.
At its meeting on 27 February, 2014, the Council resolved to seek the community's views on the role of Christchurch City Council in the provision of social housing in its district.
A Statement of Proposal was adopted by the full Council on 12 May, 2014, and is now out for public consultation.
The objective of the Council's proposal for the provision of social housing in Christchurch & Banks Peninsula is to:
* Have more flexibility in the future ownership, management and development of the Council's own social housing portfolio
* Ensure that the portfolio has a financially viable and sustainable future
* Maintain the capacity to provide the current number of social housing units in the Council's portfolio and to act as a catalyst for the provision of at least 1,000 additional units in the city.
